Hello everybody,
I had been looking around and testing for a while, in order to find a website offering free hosting for my "photostories", with one prerequisite: replay should be high quality (at least HD 720p) and not this kind of YouTube rubbish. Eventualy I choose VIMEO and uploaded some of my work. The quality prooved to be excellent, but there was one negative point: upload was slow and sometimes one had to repeat the upload because something went wrong with their code conversion. In all other aspects it is a very userfriendly system. A few days ago I found this article on the internet: http://www.webware.com/8301-1_109-9858758-2.html This confirms what I also had found: Vimeo is number one for HD quality replay, but one has to be patient during upload I hope that others will also start using Vimeo to distribute their PS3 stories (and other video material) and if they do: please hook them up into the "PhotoStoryMagic" channel (quote: A meeting place for people interested in making slideshows with PhotoStory 3 from Microsoft)which I have started already over there. This way that channnel could become a kind of showroom to demonstrate what nice things can be done in PS3 with a few photos, some good background music, a bit of creativity and a lot of transpiration. I hope you will join in and to take a start have look at: http://www.vimeo.com/443770 or http://www.vimeo.com/PhotoStoryMagic

And Hi John and PapaJohn,
As a good citizen, I'm--as I speak--uploading a a vid to Vimeo (a bit like watching the grass grow!). I hope it catches on, and we can all show each other the little mudpies we've been making for our mutual approbation.

Hey, that's a nice site! After a mere lifetime, my little piece is up and running at http://www.vimeo.com/670019. I hope others get your message, John.

Ray, using your link gets me a vimeo page that says "This video has been protected"...
I'm on a learning curve at vimeo.... haven't figured out how to change the generic picture of me to my real picture. I uploaded it but selecting it to replace the smiley face isn't sticky.
Also, I joined John's channel to show stories, but I can't add one to the channel unless I'm a moderator. I guess only he can add moderators.

Hi there, many thanks for the quick reaction!
One remark though Ray: the setting for you video must be "public" instead of "private" or else nobody will be able to see it. If you forgot it during upload, you as owner (under which name btw?) can change it by clicking "Settings" in the upper right corner of your video page. In the new window at the left there is a column called "Basic Info" and here you must click "Privacy"
If this is to be a real showroom for PS3 stories than the individual contributions must be traceble in a simple way. I suggest that we all give our stories a "PhotoStory" tag and hook them up to this "PhotoStoryMagic" channel that has already been created, and that can also be done on this "Settings" page.

Hey guys, I have joined you lot on Vimeo. Most of my slideshows are of our holidays and are 30 minutes long which I think might be too long. I do however have a couple of shorter ones that I would love to share with you.
I have joined and added a profile pic but every time I go to upload I get an error message part way through the upload. (very frustrating!)
I will try again, hopefully 3rd time lucky. |

Hi, PapaJohn, it seems to me that some of our recent messages must have crossed above the Atlantic Ocean. A bit surprising because it was almost 9 in the morning here, so you must have been working very late into the night. I looked at Vimeo a little bit closer and almost by accident I put the label "PhotoStory" on your file. Very strange, I would have thought that this would be the privilege of the owner. Tried to link your file to the PhotoStoryMagic channel, but that didn't work, although I seem to be the moderator of this channel. Must put some more time in this during the weekend. There is a lot of Help provided at the site, but I would have preferred a classic help file instead of these video tutorials.
On the other hand the system is perfect to implement this showroom function: a non-member can visit the site and search for a channel called "PhotoStoryMagic" and he will find all the files various people have uploaded and put "on display" there (but at the moment he will find only mine).
John
Correction: couldn't wait until the weekend: I am so excited about this whole project. Used my privileges as moderator correctly this time and it worked! Your file is now linked to this PSM channel and I made you a moderator too. I hope that very soon I get a glimps of Ray and Jeffb so I can throw them a life-line and help them to get aboard.

Hi John! Unintentionally, I seem to have opted for "private." (Captain Klutz Rides Again!) I think I've got it right now, and the link http://www.vimeo.com/670019 should work. Do let me know, and thanks as always for your guidance.

Looks good now Ray...
I got my avatar figured out... and uploaded a couple more files... 'Civil War - focus on Gettysburg' and 'Animation in a Story'. I haven't figured out if and how I could, even as a moderator, make it such that they appear in the channel, even though I tagged them with the channel name.
One think I noticed that's great about vimeo is it letting you replace a video with another version without it effecting anything else or having to redo the text and get a different link.
John, I don't know if the Civil War flick is appropriate for this new channel, as it's using story clips in a Movie Maker project... not a pure story. Pull it if you want, if and when it shows up in the channel.

Hi PapaJohn
I see there is a little misunderstanding because in Vimeo I introduced 2 things: a tag "PhotoStory" to be added to each story (so far not used but let's keep on doing it, who knows ... ) and a new channel "PhotoStoryMagic" which should develop into a meeting place for people with the same technical and/or artistic fields of intrest(if I may say so). In order to link a story to this channel just select it for playing but don't start; on the right side you must click "Channel/Album", then "add to a channel"; now create a new channel by typing or simply selecting "PhotoStoryMagic" and finally click "add". This way I did it for your animation story but I leave the two others up to you. In my opinion they can be linked to the channel if they are partly made using PS3, but integrated using MM2 (similar to my Vincent van Gogh movie is composed out four stories which are at the end knitted together with Premiere Elements)

I give up! I cannot get anything to upload successfully. It gets to 100% and says the upload is successful and the video is being converted. Are you supposed to wait for any length of time after this before clicking on the red button "go to video"? When I click on that it goes to my video but tells me there was a problem converting this video. I have now tried 3 different stories and about 6 times in total!
Any clues? |

Under which name you are logged in and plaese give me some more details about the stories (name, file size, type wmv ? but coming from SP3 or MM2 ? ... ) I will contact Vimeo tomorrow morning. I uploaded another one only a few minutes ago (it came from MM2 but also PS3 shouldn't be a problem: most of my uploaded stories come fromP S3)

Thanks John... it worked fine for the one I wanted to add. I'm good now for a while. Thanks for setting it up.
I added a link to the channel at the bottom of my website's Photo Story 3 > Distributing page.
