I've written an application called TweakPS for Photo Story. I'm releasing it today. Please leave comments here if you experience any problems.
TweakPS will allow you to do the following:
* set a duration of your choosing across all of the slides in your project * remove motion * randomize slides
I'm sure I will improve it as I get feedback.
You can download it from this link:

Thanks Mark...
I gave it a spin and it worked fine. Just a couple minor comments.
- the maximum duration that PS3 accepts is 300 seconds. When I used a higher number, it went through the process but the story project didn't change. The best would be to limit the user's entry to the 300 as a maximum. Lacking that, use some of the space on the window to tell the users the limits to enter... or a tool tip.
- seems like the backup file is the first one created... good thing... but by using the same story a few times, applying the remove motion first, then the change of durations... if I wanted to undo the last one and live with one of my tweaked project files, I'm a little confused on how best to do it. Starting over from the backup copy might be best.
All in all, nice work!!! The install and operation worked without a hiccup.

Hi Mark,
I just added a link to this thread... on the Photo Story 3 > Setup page of my site. It's the first and only (so far) pointer to another software app that is specific to working with Photo Story 3.

Mark, I dowloaded TweakPC but in the set up it requires net frame. I am not a programer, using winxp and want to know why net frame is required, will effect my winxp system or is there a work around? Richard Cooper |

Having problems installing Tweak, downloaded to My Pictures folder,
hit run and gives message for needing .netframe, downloaded that from your link, when I try to open that go to run and get message repair or unistall. Did repair but everything just continues to give same message.
What should I do, do I need to save the downloads differently?
Could use help on getting it to work. Everything is going good. Even used Audcity on the music and put back into photo story. Getting close would just like to use Tweak
Thanks

I downloaded and saved .net again and know the Tweak works fine. When I first read the information, I thought it allowed you to set a duration on each frame individually in the story, set one for 5 another for 15 and say one for 10.
It appears to set all frames the same thru out the entire story.
Is there a way to use the tool to set frames individually?
Thanks

To mt.yetti. You got the program to work. Where did you install the Tweak files? Thanks Richard |

Cooperin,
Here is what I did that finally worked and maybe for you. Try to do his link to download that net file. Or go to windows and find the download to the .net. When it comes up to download don't hit run, select save. I just saved it to My Pictures in the C Drive, I think just save it where you can find it. After words I went to that file in My Pictures in the C drive and opened it up. It extracted the file and took me thru some steps of saving it to windows. It was very straight forward and I just had to follow the directions. It must be it somewhere behind the scenes to use latter (for us non-professionals).
I had already downloaded Tweak to My Pictures in the C drive. I then opened that file download and no longer got the message I needed net but it allowed to use Tweak.
You do not open photostory to do Tweak, you go to the Tweak file that I think it now saved in C:programs in my computer or you can access thru the all programs list.
When you first open Tweak it will ask you which file (yor savedphoto story) you want to open to apply the changes. I would suggest using a test story. The mistake I made was thinking that Tweak would set a different duration for each individual picture, it does not. If you go into duration and type in a number say 10 for 10 seconds. It will globablly place 10 seconds intervals on every slide in that photo story.
If you make the change in Tweak then go back in and open photostory and go to that same file, you can see it applys the change to all the pictures. If you were going to use this I would suggest doing it at the start before you add music, because if you add music then do this it affects the length of the music on some of the pictures.
I did have the same question as PapaJohn with which file to use because it saved as a .bak. I would suggest a some test pictures to play with it first before you use a permanent story.
I think this works well once you get it down but if you could select and change the duration by picture it would be more useful.
Sorry for the long post but I know how it is when your trying to do this it can get very frustrating.
I would suggest starting over with all the downloads and see what happens, unfortuantely I didn't get your error message but hopefully my experience may help you. |

These are all good comments. I'll look into setting durations for each image in the story instead of, or in addition to, global duration changes.

Mark, This add-on software is really very helpful. It would even be better if it could also delete the transitions between all images in one batch operation. Re-installing the default "soft overflow" for all images would then of course be the inevitable extra option. Any chance for such an upgrade in the near future ??? |

Very Cool, up to now I was doing global changes 'by hand' using the cabarc tool.
Could you also add the possibility to change the "transition time"?
Thanks
